It was getting dark and foggy when I was hiking up the steep slope on Pico de Loro. I was tired and my thighs were hurting. Good thing I kept going because near the top, this is what I saw. It only lasted a few seconds. Then it disappeared.

A place for prayer

Oratory in an old house in Batangas.

I had never seen anything like this before in a private home. I would have labeled this as just a place for prayer but I just discovered that there is a name for it: Oratory. I found this oratory in an old house in Batangas. My picture doesn't show it but it also has a kneeler. I think many devout catholics in the Philippines in the old days set up oratories like this in their homes.

Aurora Province

My vacation in Aurora is one of my most memorable ones. I had a lot of fun with my buddies. It was also the last time for me to take a trip with my friend, Mae, before she left the Philippines to live in the USA. I miss her. I wonder if I will be able to see her again. Some of my other girl friends have also left the Philippines--Marissa H., Marissa B., Luisa, Mary Ann, and Charmaine. Only memories remain.

Somewhere in Banaue

That is not my house. It isn't the worst place to live in. At least it provides shelter. Can you imagine yourself being homeless and sleeping on the sidewalk or under a bridge?

I live in a house in a nice neighborhood with a big yard and plenty of trees and shrubs. Our house is more than 20 years old. I used to complain that it's old and ugly with plenty of cracks in the walls and holes in the roof. I didn't want to invite friends to come over because of that. It was beautiful when it was new, but now we can't afford repairs.

Later I realized that I shouldn't complain. I should thank God for his blessings. I like our house and our neighborhood. I like my room. I like my red closet. I love the sound of the birds chirping. I love seeing my nephew, Nathan, holding his nanny's hand and walking in the street, or sometimes getting a ride in his baby buggy. I love walking to church every Sunday. I love seeing kids playing or riding their bikes. I'm happy to live there. Do you want to come and visit?

Different Faces of Ayala Avenue

Ayala Avenue in the central business district of Makati. This is what it looks like during a political rally. Exciting, isn't it?

But everyday, especially in the late afternoon to evening, when people leave their offices and head home, the sidewalks are busy with vendors selling food. Sometimes I buy boiled corn on the cob or boiled peanuts. If you're used to driving and hardly ever walk to get around the city you won't see these faces up close.

What an experience. That was the first time I walked for 13 hours straight, from 11 a.m. to midnight, in the rain, with my backpack, as our guide led us through the long and difficult hunter trail going down from the mountain.

This is one of the first photos I took using my LC-A just after I bought in in December last year. My niece, Alex, is 13 now and taller than me. I miss those times when I used to read bedtime stories to her. I would even fall asleep beside her while reading and she would nudge me to wake me up so I could continue the story.

Cambulo is a remote village in Ifugao province. Located in the Cordillera Central Mountains of the Philippines, the province is known for its magnificent rice terraces built centuries ago by the Ifugao tribe using only their bare hands and primitive tools.
